Baltic Exchange and Lavinia Bulk sponsored Golf Day raises £6,495 for seafarers and their families in need.
24 of the industry’s keenest golfers recently took to Goodwood’s glorious green for this year’s Sailors’ Society Golf Day, sponsored by the Baltic Exchange and Lavinia Bulk.
Competitors battled it out on the prestigious championship Downs course, known for its tricky gradients and stunning scenery, and raised £6,495 for Sailors’ Society’s global work supporting seafarers and their families.
The day kicked off with warming bacon rolls at the kennels before players competed on the century old Downs course. Players were revitalised by a relaxing lunch followed by the FIS sponsored prize giving in the stylish Kennels restaurant. Companies attending included ADM, AM Nomikos, Arrow Panamax, Baltic Exchange, FIS, Gibson Shipbrokers, Lavinia Bulk, Mavega, McMurdo, PaccShip UK, SSY, Thurlestone Shipping and TradeWinds.
Brian Nixon, MD of Lavinia Bulk Ltd said, “As an Ambassador for Sailors’ Society, this was the perfect opportunity to enjoy a day on the green while raising awareness and funds for the charity. It was great to have so much support from our industry colleagues.”
Mark Jackson and James Pendered, Baltic Exchange (43 points) took the overall trophy after a hard fought game, with Ashley Westen and Michael Slattery, FIS (38 points) coming in second, closely followed by Alex Bailiff, Vitol and Leo King, Mavega (36 points).
Mark Jackson, CEO of the Baltic Exchange said, “We were delighted to sponsor this event and continue our support of Sailors’ Society’s welfare services for seafarers and their families. In these economic climes, help for those in need is as vital as ever.”
In 2016, Sailors’ Society supporters enabled the charity to reach out to more than 400,000 seafarers and their families. If you are interested in supporting Sailors’ Society by participating in an event, visit: www.sailors-society.org/get-involved/events/
