Serious training was undertaken by the intrepid climbers in the run-up to the event, as well as some serious fundraising. Not only did the climbers conquer the mountain, but also raised USD 570,000 which will support the Sailors’ Society’s projects around the world including the Society’s ‘Gift of Education’ Fund providing education, computers and transport for seafarers’ children, and its ‘Gift of Welfare’ fund which will include connectivity for seafarers’ families.
The Baltic Exchange team made up of chief executive Jeremy Penn, Paul Stuart-Smith, Baltex COO and Yanjie Shi, freight market reporter successfully reached the peak.
The climb was sponsored by Cargill, Rio Tinto, Noble, ABS, Wilhelmsen Ships Services and the Baltic.
