The Baltic Exchange FC roared to the top of the table with an empathetic victory against their fellow title challengers. A perfect attacking performance by the Baltic boys saw them 3-0 up at half time after an excellent first half hat trick by Mikey Oliver (Howe Rob). His first was a glorious strike from the right wing after a delightful clip through by Nat Twiggs (Pacific Basin). Moments later the Baltic’s Pirlo, Andrea Bologna (Howe Rob) slid sweet through ball to his colleague to go one on one with the keeper, giving the BEFC a comfortable lead. Mikey rounded his hat trick off after some tricky footwork and a Tom Daily dive from Andrea forced a penalty just before the end of the half….Andrea continued his generous mood allowing Mikey to take the pen and slot the ball home into the bottom corner.
The second half was more of the same from the Baltic Exchange, with penalties and dives a plenty. Early on an HSBC handball allowed Andrea to slot in a well-deserved goal and 10 minutes later the Italian was back in action with another theatrical tumble leading to a third Baltic Penalty. This time it was Nick Marns’ (Thurlestone) turn to step up – he gave the keeper the eyes and sent him the wrong way putting the Baltic 5-0 up. With five minutes to go there was still time for a Baltic Exchange collector’s item: Adam Cook (GFI) ventured forward to score a peach of a goal from 25 yards into the top right hand corner of the net. The right back’s first goal in over a year was followed by a cartwheel celebration and laughter/embarrassment by his team mates.
A great performance by all, but this week’s man of the match has to go to Mikey Oliver for a great first half hat-trick.
