The Baltic Exchange came back from an early controversial penalty to claim a hard earned point against league leaders and current champions Bloomberg. The champions started strongest, putting early pressure on the Baltic’s defence. Within five minutes the BEFC back line was breached and Bloomberg’s star player conned the referee into giving a penalty after Oli Denal (KPI Bridge Oil) brought the striker down in the box, although he was certain he nicked the ball first.
The Baltic team re-organised, sacrificing their usual samba football for a more solid style which frustrated the champs. Early in the second half The Baltic’s hard work was rewarded with a truly British goal, finished by an Italian…a big boot forward from Ben (AM Nomikos) in goal was flicked on from the giant Tom Buckley (GFI) to Max Allen (Clarksons) for him to slot in and Andrea Bologna (Howe Rob) to smash home. The BEFC managed to remain solid at the back and looked the more likely team to win, but couldn’t create that one clear chance to punish Bloomberg.
It is impossible to single out individual praise for this one, great team performance…if pressured to make a decision, man of the match would have to go to the taxi driver who beat the traffic to get three players to the ground five minutes before kickoff!
